AG Summer Institute Thank You Letter

Dear person in charge,

My name is Justin Bohner. I just want to say thank you for raising the money for us to be able to come to this fun Summer Institute. To tell you the truth, I really didn't want to come here at first. But after the first day I was already having a blast. My mom laughed at me and said "I told you so." It was actually kind of funny. Never mind that, I still just want to say thank you for setting this up so that us kids had something to do over these boring days of the summer. Mr.DeVille and Mrs.Powell are the best teachers you could have asked to do something like this. It has been real fun and I hope you do it again next year. I will be a rising freshman but I still want it for the others who are going into 7th and 8th. I also want to thank you for supplying us with the jump drives and "Farewell to Manzanar" books. That was very generous. I will most likely be using the jump drive a lot over the summer and in 9th grade.

Sincerely,

Justin Bohner

Racial Profiling and the Japanese Internment

From: http://memory.loc.gov/pnp/ppprs/00200/00200v.jpg
Racial profiling is the act of someone judging you because of your race. The government uses racial profiling to arrest people of certain races just because the government thinks that they are going to do the same thing that other people of their race have done. I think that racial profiling is not uber. It is not the right thing to do. One of the most serious cases of racial profiling was the Japanese Internment. It was a period of time right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The government decided to send all Japanese-Americans to internment camps all over the United States. It was a terrible time for the Japanese because they were immediatly evacuated from their homes and had to leave most of their belongings behind. The government used racial profiling ont hese people just becaus ethey were at war with the Japanese and the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. The picture above is of one of the Japanese internment camps. This particular camp is called Manzanar. It was not a nice place but it wasn't the worst of them all. As you can see, it was not fair for the Japanese to have to go to these camps. While they were in these camps (sometimes for years) their belongings and other valuable things were either stolen or confiscated. That is what I think about racial profiling and the Japanese-Internment.

Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson was a good man that was having to deal with the mistakes of others. Everyone always made him out to be the bad guy. President Thomas Jefferson was actually the one who made the deal with the Georgians to get rid of the Cherokee so that Georgia did not expand too far westward. Andrew Jackson was just having to live with Jefferson's mistakes. He didn't like the Cherokee being such a problem, but he didn't hate them.
If he had hated them he would have just tlod the Georgians to go ahead and kill the Cherokee. The Georgians had already wanted the Cherokee off their land for several reasons. One reason was is that the Georgians wanted to grow cotton, and they couldn't with the Cherokee there. Large plantations needed slaves to do the labor. Missionaries were also coming to tell the Cherokee about christianity. This included telling them that slavery was vile. The Georgians did not like the missionaries being there because they were a strong slave society.
